Lower Back Stretches

Lower back pain is an increasingly common condition, worsened by prolonged periods of sitting, such as when driving or working at a desk.

Whilst it can be caused by serious conditions such as inflammatory arthritis, spondylolisthesis or fibromyalgia, most cases are mechanical, meaning that the pain stems from a disruption in the joints, muscles, discs, or soft tissue surrounding the spine.

It is crucial to know how to correctly stretch in order to relieve lower back pain. It should be performed slowly, paying attention to how your body responds to each of the stretches. Alongside regular stretching, strengthening your core to improve lumbo-pelvic stability, as well as your glutes are key to permanently reducing lower back pain.

Give the 6 stretches shown below a try, holding each one for 30-60 seconds.
